Winter Tip
2.1.07

Electrolyes are as important during the winter months as they are in the summertime.  When horses become dehydrated in the cold weather they are more prone to getting colic.  Try giving the horses luke warm water instead of the icy cold water.

Vaccinations
1.1.07

Due to the recent outbreaks of various contagious diseases across the country, Fenwick Farm would like to inform all owners of the neccessity of properly vaccinating their horses.    EASTERN & WESTERN ENCEPHALOMYELITIS,  INFLUENZA, RHINOPNEUMONITIS (EHV-1 & EHV-4),  BOTULISM,  WEST NILE  and TETNUS are basic vaccinations which should begin in the foaling year.   STRANGLES and HERPES vaccines are now neccessary for  the shipping of horses.   If your horses are based on the east coast POTOMAC HORSE FEVER vaccine would be recommended.  We recommend a vaccine for VENEZUELAN ENCEPALOMYELITIS for midwest and southwest travel.  We also recommend a RABIES vaccine.  Many of these vaccines are available in 5-way and 6-way shots which make it very manageable.  Also, if a horse has never been vaccinated, many of the vaccines will require 2-3 shots at various intervals.

All Fenwick Farm horses will be vaccinated.

South Carolina offers variety of opportunities

by Ben Baugh

The Palmetto State has seen its share of successful racehorses, and the Thoroughbred training centers and operations based in South Carolina continue to produce graded stakes winners and talented runners. South Carolina has a richly endowed place in the industry, and the list of stakes winners and champions who have been conditioned in the state reads like a virtual who’s who in racing. The names include Secretariat, Ruffian, Kelso, Forego, Gamely, Seeking the Gold, Damascus, Forty Niner, Summer Squall, Pleasant Colony, Relaxing, Hoist the Flag, Halo, Mr. Leader, Fit to Fight, Stage Door Johnny, Devil Diver, Lamb Chop, Conquistador Cielo, Christmas Past, Candy Eclair, Java Gold, Shuvee, *Hawaii, Storm Song, Sea Hero, Tom Fool, Tom Rolfe, Langfuhr, Wando, Chilukki, Congaree, War Emblem, and, most recently, Jazil.
